A mechanic just told me i need a new fuel pump for my 95 ford festiva.

i just don't want to spend a bunch of money on this car and it was
going to cost $500 to fix, so my ex and i wondered if we could do this
ourselves. We are not mechanics, but we used to do things like replace
his oil pan gasket, etc. when we were dating. We did get divorced, but
not because of botched mechanicing!

Anyhow, where is the fuel pump and how difficult is it to replace?

thanks

take out the back seat
lift the carpet
take off the accesses plate over the tank
remove the screws holding the round thing on the top of the tank to the
tank.
pull this whole thing up out of the tank, the fuel pump there on the
brace you pulled out of the tank.
take it off, put the new one on, and go backwards to reassemble.

easy!

if it is ACTING like a bad fuel pump, it could possibly be the fuel
pressure regulator on the fuel injection rail. this thing sticking will
mimick a bad fuel pump, by starving the fuel to the injector rail when
you have a load on the engine (going uphill, reving the engine, shifting
into a high gear to soon...)

its a little tiny piece and its $$$$$$$$$$$.

good luck
