My '93 L has had a persistant oscillation in one front hub or the other for
years...the driver's side being the most frequent. I've replaced / rebuilt
the driver's side 3 times to try and remedy it.
The wobble appears to be caused by the spindle being off-center, caused by
lousy lathe set up, I think. It keeps me from putting any bigger wheels
and tires (165/70/13) on it because it shakes so badly at highway speeds.
In fact, around town, you can feel a slight "walking" motion from that
side when I apply the brakes all the way to a halt.
To go further, I've rebuilt the whole front suspension to rule it out, and
tried ALL 4 tires on the left front to see if THEY were out of balance.
Every one of them shakes here, but nowhere else on the car.
It has been an excellent car for the past 200,000 miles, giving no other
problems, and the gas mileage has stayed around 40, making it cheap to
drive. I don't want to get rid of it, but this problem may convince me to
if I don't find some other cure.
What say, readers? Any similar experience?
